Student Field Trips

The L.A. Conservancy brings Los Angeles history to life for students through our in-person and virtual field trips. Our enriching programs are filled with inspirational stories reflecting the cultural and architectural history of L.A.

Programs are led by Conservancy educators and support California鈥檚 Common Core State Standards in History and Social Studies, as well as highlight important lessons about the preservation of historic sites.

L.A. Conservancy Student Programs are now a part of LAUSD’s Black Student Achievement Plan!
In 2023, the SA国际传媒 joined the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Black Student Achievement Plan (BSAP) focused on improving learning opportunities and educational outcomes for Black students in Los Angeles. The Conservancy鈥檚 Student Walking Tour Program is offered as an enrichment opportunity to support student learning.

  • NEW: Downtown L.A.鈥檚 Chinatown 鈥 A Historic Neighborhood

    Student Walking Tour

    Step into the story of one of L.A.鈥檚 most resilient communities. This new student walking tour begins at the beautiful and bustling Union Station, where you’ll learn how L.A.’s original Chinatown was displaced to make way for the station鈥檚 construction. Then we鈥檒l hop on the Metro for a quick ride to Chinatown Central Plaza, where we鈥檒l explore the neighborhood that emerged in its place 鈥 a vibrant mix of history, architecture, public art, and cultural pride. Along the way, we鈥檒l talk about legacy businesses, activism, and how this neighborhood continues to evolve while honoring its past.

  • NEW: The Heart of Historic K-Town

    Student Walking Tour

    Los Angeles鈥檚 Koreatown is a bustlingneighborhood, home to some of the city鈥檚 most elegant architecture, layered histories, and current cultural touchstones. This tour will explore the story of Central Wilshire鈥檚 development and the creation of Koreatown as both a place and a community.Students will visit historic hotels, shopping plazas, and places of worship, as well as the sites of lost icons like the Ambassador Hotel. Along the way 迟丑别测鈥檒濒 learn about early Korean immigration to Los Angeles, the 1992 civil unrest, or 鈥淪a-I-Gu” (靷澊甑), and the ways that pop culture is continuing to transform this neighborhood.

  • Building Community: Pioneering Black Architects in L.A.

    Virtual Tour only

    An interactive exploration of historic places designed by pioneering Black Architects. Through the stories of Norma Merrick Sklarek, Paul R. Williams, Robert Kennard, and many others, students will understand how Black architects shaped Los Angeles and influenced communities through advocacy and design. Available as a virtual tour only.

    A great introduction to the architecture and history of downtown Los Angeles.

  • Union Station

    Explore America’s last great train station built at the end of the golden age of rail travel.

STUDENT WALKING TOURS

  • The cost is $10.00 per student. (One free chaperone per 10 students)
  • Walking tours available: Historic Downtown, Union Station, Downtown L.A.’s Chinatown*, The Heart of Historic K-Town*.
  • Offered Monday through Friday.
  • Each session may be scheduled for up to 2 hours between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. We kindly request walking tour bookings be made at least three weeks before your desired date.
  • Recommended for up to 30 students in grades 3-12.
  • Large group options and scholarships are available! Just ask.
  • *Downtown L.A.鈥檚 Chinatown 鈥 A Historic Neighborhood walking tour takes students on the Metro L (Gold) Line. The cost of the ride is included. Because of the high foot traffic and compact layout of the neighborhood, this tour is currently limited to groups of 30 students or fewer.
  • *The Heart of Historic K-Town tour is currently limited to groups of 30 students or fewer because of high foot traffic and compact layout of the neighborhood.听


VIRTUAL FIELD TRIPS

  • The cost is $25.00 per individual session.
  • Virtual tours available: Building Community
  • Offered Monday through Friday
  • Each session may be scheduled for up to 1-hour between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. We kindly request workshop bookings be made at least two weeks before your desired date.
  • Recommended for up to 30 students in grades 3-12.
  • Large group options and scholarships are available! Just ask.
