Altadena Project Manager, Cultural Asset Mapping (CAM) Initiative

Temporary Position through December 31, 2028

Position Summary

The SA国际传媒 seeks a detail-oriented and mission-aligned Altadena Project Manager to lead the Altadena Cultural Asset Mapping (CAM) Initiative, a three-year collaborative project that will document and celebrate the historic and cultural assets that define Altadena鈥檚 unique sense of place.

The CAM Initiative is a community-designed process to recognize the living heritage of Altadena鈥攊ts gathering places, local businesses, art, and traditions that may not fit traditional measures of architectural or historical significance but are deeply valued by residents and the broader community. Through a combination of spatial analysis, oral histories, and storytelling, CAM will visualize both tangible and intangible heritage across geography and time.

Led by the SA国际传媒 in partnership with community organizations including Altadena Heritage, Altadena Historical Society, Altadena Rebuild Coalition, Altadena Rising, and SoCal NOMA (National Organization of Minority Architects), the CAM Initiative will map and share the stories, places, and traditions that represent Altadena鈥檚 multifaceted cultural landscape. This work will acknowledge the tremendous loss experienced by the Altadena community and help build a foundation for community-driven cultural preservation and placekeeping, local planning, and future recognition efforts.

The Altadena Project Manager will oversee all aspects of this initiative鈥攆rom planning and coordination through data collection, analysis, and dissemination鈥攅nsuring successful delivery of project goals, schedules, and partnerships. This position is a full-time, temporary role tied to the duration of the CAM Initiative and the end of 2028. The position will report directly to the Conservancy鈥檚 President & CEO.

preservation organization in the United States, supported by a staff of sixteen and an annual budget exceeding $3 million.

 

Key Responsibilities

路 Lead and manage the Altadena Cultural Asset Mapping (CAM) Initiative in partnership with community collaborators and a Heritage Specialist consultant team,

路 Apply creative thinking, empathy, and trauma-informed practices to guide engagement and decision-making.

路 Develop and oversee comprehensive project work plans, timelines, budgets, and milestones to ensure all deliverables are met while adapting to evolving community needs.

路 Coordinate all project phases鈥攆rom outreach and data gathering to synthesis and dissemination鈥攚ith a strong emphasis on collaboration and transparency and thoughtful problem solving

路 Coordinate with the Conservancy鈥檚 broader Altadena recovery efforts, including Historic Resources Survey, Historic Context Statement, and Artists at Work collaborations.

路 Build and sustain strong relationships with local partners, organizations, and residents to ensure inclusive participation, trust, and shared ownership.

路 Design and facilitate community engagement activities such as listening sessions, walking tours, public workshops, and digital storytelling efforts centering empathy and culturally responsive approaches.

路 Compile and analyze spatial, archival, and oral history data to identify and prioritize significant sites and traditions for recognition.

路 Collaborate with partners, consultants, and local stakeholders to identify desired cultural preservation outcomes and develop community-informed preservation strategies.

路 Develop and manage a communications plan (web, social media, community meetings, and briefings) to share progress and results with participants and the wider public.

路 Draft and deliver project updates, presentations, and visual content for multiple audiences, including funders, community partners, and Conservancy leadership.

路 Represent the Conservancy at meetings, community events, and public forums with professionalism, empathy, and responsiveness to community perspectives.

 

Qualifications and Skills

路 Bachelor鈥檚 degree in historic preservation, urban planning, geography, public history, architecture, arts and culture, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).

路 3鈥5 years of demonstrated experience managing complex, collaborative community projects and coordinating multi-partner initiatives

路 Strong skills in community engagement, facilitation, or collaborative project work with neighborhood-based organizations or cultural institutions, grounded in empathy and relationship-building.

路 Familiarity with Altadena鈥檚 history, community networks, and heritage landscape.

路 Strong facilitation, communication, and partnership-building skills.

路 Excellent writing and presentation abilities, including translating technical material for broad and diverse audiences.

路 Commitment to equity-focused, inclusive cultural preservation practices.

路 Strong project management skills, including budgeting and contract oversight.

路 Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

 

Preferred

路 Established resident or strong local knowledge of the Altadena community.

路 Bilingual abilities in Spanish is a plus.

路 Experience with GIS or data visualization platforms is a plus.

 

Work Environment and Schedule

This hybrid position allows for remote work with one required in-office day per week at the Conservancy鈥檚 Downtown Los Angeles location. Evening and weekend meetings or community听events will be required periodically.

 

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, nearly three-year temporary position with an annual salary range of $95,000 to $105,000, commensurate with experience. The role offers an excellent benefits package, including health, dental, and life insurance; paid holidays and vacation; and a 401(k) retirement plan with a 5% employer match after one year of continuous employment.

Administrative Assistant

The SA国际传媒听seeks听an organized and dynamic individual to support the organization鈥檚 administration. This is a full-time, non-exempt position, reporting to the Director of Operations.听

The Administrative Assistant provides support for the day-to-day administrative functions of the SA国际传媒.听

Founded in 1978, the SA国际传媒 is a nonprofit organization providing historic preservation advocacy and education throughout Greater Los Angeles. With approximately 4,500 member households, the Conservancy has the largest membership of any local historic preservation organization in the U.S. The Conservancy has a staff of sixteen and a budget of over $3听million.

JOB DUTIES

Administration

  • Serve as the main point of听contact for all constituent inquiries via phones,听email听and听walk-in traffic
  • Pick-up and process all mail,听scanning and sending to different departments听
  • Assist听bookkeeper with check-processing, reinforcing organizational financial integrity and internal controls
  • Manage organization-wide calendar听by听adding,听updating events,听and distribution of calendar invites to staff
  • Help prepare and support Board and committee meetings听by assembling reports,听maintain听meeting RSVPs and take minutes at board meetings听
  • Coordinate the procurement of office equipment and supplies听
  • Maintain all shared office technology (printers, laptops, iPads, Projector, etc.)听and听ensure they are ready for use听
  • Support the Conservancy鈥檚 safety policy and act as the Conservancy鈥檚 representative to the building for emergency preparedness
  • Support the functions of the website troubleshooting various issues constituents have and providing proactive support听
  • Maintain general office housekeeping (kitchen听organization, conference听room, storage unit, etc.)听
  • Help setup and create forms (surveys, applications, etc.) in Form Assembly
  • Assist Director of Operations with ad hoc data clean up and entry projects听
  • Provide support and assistance to the President & CEO
  • Manage special projects and听additional听assignments as organizational needs arise.

Membership听

  • Manage the weekly processing of new and renewing memberships, including data entry and the distribution of acknowledgment letters
  • Prepare听and send听all gift memberships, gift certificates, merchandise or in honor donation notifications as needed
  • Coordinate and implement all fulfillment activities to ensure that members receive premiums and benefits听
  • Maintain donor records and gift histories using customized Salesforce CRM database; work with the Director of Operations on best practices
  • Manage all auto-renew memberships听by听processing monthly charges and following up on any declined payments
  • Follow-up with constituents about declined transactions or credit card processing issues
  • Support bi-annual direct mail campaign
  • Maintain materials inventory for membership operations (brochures, stationery, premiums, forms, etc.) and premium/merchandise inventories; monitors expenditures; and provides input to Director of Development for budget monitoring and planning

Special Events

  • Responsible for processing all payments for听Annual听Benefit and Preservation Award听Celebration
  • Produce and send acknowledgements for all payments听
  • Provide administrative support to individual departments for events
  • Assist听in the production and administration of Conservancy events by coordinating correspondence with attendees, including ticket information and processing听

听Required听Qualifications and听Skills

  • High School Diploma
  • 1+ years of administrative or office experience听supporting day-to-day operation, preferably in a nonprofit setting听
  • Proficiency听in Microsoft Office and general digital literacy
  • Exceptional customer service and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented approach to data entry,听record-keeping听and听workflow听organization
  • Strong situational awareness; able to听anticipate听shifting priorities and provide proactive, self-directed support
  • Ability to manage multiple听priorities听and meet deadlines
  • Excellent听written and verbal听communication听skills;听professional and welcoming demeanor
  • High level听of discretion听and sensitivity听when handling confidential information

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with any of our core platforms (Salesforce NPSP, Asana, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Form Assembly, WordPress, and/or Soapbox Engage)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish preferred)

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged computer use and occasional standing or walking for events and site visits
  • Ability to occasionally move objects up to 20 lbs. (e.g., event materials, office boxes, etc.)

This position is a hybrid of both remote and onsite and will require you to be in the downtown Los Angeles office three days a week. Will need to work occasional evening and weekend meetings and events.

2026听Getty Marrow Undergraduate Summer Internship

The SA国际传媒鈥檚听education programs听teach听students and adults to see beyond the traditional concept of 鈥渓andmarks鈥 to understand neighborhoods and buildings in a context that emphasizes the role of history, culture, and community. The Education Intern听assists听with the Conservancy鈥檚 Student and Family听Programs and upcoming efforts related to community-focused tours in different neighborhoods across听L.A.听County. Interns with a strong interest in education, history, cultural and historical preservation,听architecture,听teaching, and community engagement are encouraged to apply.听

Intern Duties听

  • Assist听with the planning, teaching, and staffing of summer Student Programs, including The Heritage Project, a three-week intensive for high school students.听
  • Conduct preliminary research, resource gathering, and community networking on behalf of a special fall campaign focused on the role historic preservation plays in relation to听housing.听
  • Assist听with the staffing of听the听Last Remaining Film Series in June. Schedule will be adjusted for weekend hours.听
  • With staff, research and develop curriculum听and programs听suitable for 3- to 12-grade students highlighting historically significant buildings/neighborhoods,听including but not limited to residency workshops with East L.A. schools and Community Leadership Boot Camp: Next Generation.
  • Miscellaneous research and administrative work as needed.听

Supervision, Nature of Training, & Workspace

The Student and Family Program听Coordinator听will provide direct supervision of the intern鈥檚 work. The intern, as with all members of the education department,听answers听to听the Director of Education.听听

The intern will work a Monday through Friday 40-hour week with some听weekends听and after-hour work听required. During听the month of June, the intern may work听a听predominantly Tuesday听through Saturday/Sunday work week.听Flexible hours and the ability to听work听a hybrid schedule are听a must.

Special Note: The intern will听work听a hybrid schedule with approximately 50% in-office time and 50% remote. A personal computer with a camera and access to the internet are听required. A schedule will be听determined听upon hiring.

The intern will gain experience researching,听creating听and teaching educational programs for students and adults, supporting educational events that reach audiences through various learning styles, and evaluating program efficiencies. In addition, the Education Intern will听participate听in many aspects of the Conservancy鈥檚 daily operations, including staff, board, and department meetings and planning sessions. The intern will gain experience working with volunteers, be immersed in a collaborative team environment, and learn how the departments in a nonprofit organization work together to carry out a mission.听

听The intern will receive a听$7,400.00听stipend.听

Note: Students can听participate听in the program multiple times but must intern at a different organization each summer.听
